BIOGRAPHY


Christian Spencer was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1977.

He started painting professionally in 1996 in Adelaide and in 1998 moved to a isolated sheep station in the heart of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia to work and paint.It was there that Christian Spencer developed his own style mixing islamic geometry, meso american motifs, tribal art with the harsh beauty of the Australian Outback.

In the year 2000 he moved to Brazil and since 2001 lives and works in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro state, among the rich biodiversity of the Atlantic Rainforest inside the National Park of Itatiaia. The rich natural and cultural history of Brazil had a important part in the development of his paintings, enriching even more his unique style. He has shown his works in many exhibitions around Brazil, Australia and Europe.

In 2006 he made the first of 3 films on Brazil,s exuburent nature which went on to win 19 awards in important film festivals all over the world.
In 2008 he participated of a Art Residency in the Egon Schiele Art Centrum in Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. There he produced the film “Swimming Through Dimensions”, a video art about the alchemical symbols and gothic architecture of the town. These themes were also represented in his canvas and paper work. 
Recently Christian has been awarded many prizes in international photo competitions, being "Highly Commended" at the Wildlife Photographer of the year 2021, winner in the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year 2021 in the "Animal Habitat" category, winner in the Tokyo Photo Awards 2020. He also won the best overall photo 2014 and 2015 in the Ecological Society of Australia Photo Competition; winner in World Meteorological Organization photography awards and best photo award in the Canon College photography competition in Brazil in 2017 and also the prize “Fundação Casa da Cultura Macedo Miranda” at the 44º Art Salon of the Museum of Modern Art of Resende - RJ.

At the end of 2022 his book BIRDS Poetry in the sky was released by Teneues publishing in Germany and highlights his artistic way he has approached bird photography and has received many accolades including winning in the Tokyo Foto awards and PX3 Photo awards in Paris and Highly commended at the International photos awards 2023.
In these 18 years of career Christian Spencer has diverse his supports, using the canvas, film, music and photography the support to sustain his unique art, a representation of the abstraction that he sees in Nature, capturing the inter-relationship between the micro and macro, “the invisible orquestrated cosmos”.

BIOGRAFIA


Christian Spencer nasceu em Melbourne, Austrália, em 1977.

Começou a pintar profissionalmente em 1996 em Adelaide e em 1998 mudou-se para uma fazenda de ovelhas isolada no coração de Flinders Ranges, no sul da Austrália, para trabalhar e pintar. Foi lá que Christian Spencer desenvolveu seu próprio estilo misturando geometria islâmica, motivos mesoamericanos, arte tribal com a beleza do semi-árido do Outback australiano.

No ano de 2000 mudou-se para o Brasil e desde 2001 vive e trabalha nas montanhas do estado do Rio de Janeiro, em meio à rica biodiversidade da Mata Atlântica do Parque Nacional de Itatiaia. A rica história natural e cultural do Brasil teve papel importante no desenvolvimento de sua pintura, enriquecendo ainda mais seu estilo único. Já teve seus trabalhos em diversas exposições pelo Brasil, Austrália e Europa.

Em 2006 realizou o primeiro de 3 filmes sobre a natureza exuberante do Brasil que ganhou 19 prêmios em importantes festivais de cinema em todo o mundo.
Em 2008 participou de uma Residência Artística no Egon Schiele Art Centrum em Cesky Krumlov na República Tcheca. Lá produziu o filme “Swimming Through Dimensions”, uma videoarte sobre os símbolos alquímicos e a arquitetura gótica da cidade. Esses temas também foram representados em suas telas e obras em papéis. 

Recentemente, Christian recebeu diversos prêmios em concursos internacionais de fotografia, sendo "Altamente Recomendado" no Wildlife Photographer of the Year do ano de 2021, vencedor no Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year 2021 na categoria "Habitat Animal", vencedor no Tokyo Photo Awards 2020. Ele também ganhou na categoria "melhor foto" em 2014 e 2015 no Concurso de Fotografia da Sociedade Ecológica da Austrália; vencedor do prêmio de fotografia da Organização Meteorológica Mundial e prêmio de melhor fotografia no concurso de fotografia do Canon College no Brasil em 2017 e também do prêmio “Fundação Casa da Cultura Macedo Miranda” no 44º Salão de Arte do Museu de Arte Moderna de Resende - RJ.

Ao final de 2022 seu livro "BIRDS Poetry in the sky" foi lançado pela editora TeNeues na Alemanha e destaca sua forma artística de fotografar pássaros e recebeu muitos elogios, incluindo a vitória nos prêmios Tokyo Foto e PX3 Photo Awards em Paris e altamente elogiado no International Photos Awards 2023.

Nestes 26 anos de carreira Christian Spencer tem diversos suportes, utilizando a tela, o filme, a música e a fotografia como suporte para sua arte única, uma representação da abstracção que vê na Natureza, captando a inter-relação entre o micro e o macro, “o cosmos invisível orquestrado”.
